Vincent Luis capped a brilliant day for France on the Gold Coast on Sunday afternoon, following the team’s U23-Junior Mixed Relay World title with a WTS gold of his own on a blowy afternoon in Brisbane. Mario Mola’s own place in the sport’s history books was rarely in doubt as he crossed the line in second place looking typically assured on route to securing a remarkable third Series win. South Africa’s Richard Murray crossed the line for a hard-earned bronze, while Jacob Birtwhistle’s 7th place saw him take Series bronze.

Team France became the 2018 ITU Mixed Relay U23 and Junior World Champions on Sunday following a dramatic finale to a gripping race. Consisting of Sandra Dodet, Paul Georgenthum, Emilie Morier and Leo Bergere, the team executed a near-perfect collective performance that looked to have come down to a photo finish between France and New Zealand after Hayden Wilde pushed Bergere all the way down to the wire.

2018 ITU World Triathlon Gold Coast - Junior Men’s Highlights
Hungary’s Csongor Lehmann continued his family’s rich triathlon tradition on Saturday afternoon on the Gold Coast, coming home to win the 2018 Junior World title in grand style. Lehmann’s father and coach Tibor was a National Champion in the ‘90s, and today watched his son crowned World Champion. Well-placed out of the water and again through T2, it was a devastating run - 20 seconds quicker than anyone else in the field - that saw him home for gold.

2018 ITU World Triathlon Gold Coast - Junior Women’s Highlights
Cecilia Ramirez Alavez blew away the field down the second half of the 5km run to take a hard-fought ITU Junior World title on Saturday afternoon on the Gold Coast. Alavez was almost 40 seconds off the pace coming out of the water but worked well with the chase group to make inroads on the lead pack across the 20km ride. Still 31 seconds back through T2, the Mexican powered her way through the competition, catching and passing GB’s Erin Wallace and Kate Waugh who had to settle for second and third respectively.

2018 ITU World Triathlon Gold Coast - Paratriathlon Highlights
Saturday morning saw the 2018 ITU Elite Paratriathlon World Champions crowned in Australia’s Gold Coast, with six categories competing in and around beautiful Mitchell Park. First into the water were the 22 visually impaired PTVI athletes in three waves, followed by the PTWC wheelchair athletes and then PTS5, 4, 3 and 2.

2018 Gold Coast Women Highlights
It was the race that everybody hoped they might see and much, much more as Britain’s Vicky Holland became the 2018 ITU World Champion on Saturday afternoon, sprinting down the chute two seconds behind Ashleigh Gentle, who delivered the home-nation win that the huge crowds deserved. But that was just the tip of the entertainment iceberg, coming at the end of an engrossing battle between Holland and USA’s Katie Zaferes, with both athletes knowing that finishing ahead of their rival would mean leaving Australia with a debut world title.
