World Triathlon – Francophone Triathlon Association – Africa Triathlon Joint Effort
After years of collaboration, World Triathlon, Africa Triathlon, and the Francophonie Triathlon Association (FRATRI) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the XXXVIII World Triathlon Congress in Wollongong, Australia. The agreement represents a shared commitment to develop and strengthen triathlon across the African continent.
The MoU was signed by World Triathlon President Antonio F. Arimany, Africa Triathlon President Major General Ahmed Nasser, and Francophonie Triathlon Association President Cédric Gosse, marking a significant milestone in fostering collaboration during the LA2028 Olympic cycle. The partnership will focus on athlete development, coach education, and the creation of opportunities for sustainable growth throughout Francophone nations and the African region.

'The Francophone Triathlon Association (FRATRI) has been at the forefront of developing triathlon in French-speaking countries across continents, particularly in Africa. For several years, the French Triathlon Federation has taken the lead in supporting sustainable development by providing not only financial assistance but also valuable technical expertise to those most in need. With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between FRATRI, Africa Triathlon, and World Triathlon, we are joining forces to make a meaningful impact and elevate the sport of triathlon across Francophone nations and beyond. The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games stand at the epicentre of our efforts, serving as a powerful driver for growth and collaboration.'
— Antonio F. Arimany, World Triathlon President
'FRATRI, (French-speaking NFs) an Associate Member of World Triathlon since the end of 2024, has been working closely with Africa Triathlon since 2025, under the authority of World Triathlon. We have shared our visions, pooled our expertise, and developed a joint action plan. The idea is to work together by talking to each other, not side by side, without communicating. It is also necessary to listen to local initiatives in order to assess their potential and FRATRI's ability to implement them jointly. The goal is always to make FRATRI stronger and more united by building a French-speaking project supported by as many people as possible. In this context, we have concluded a cooperation agreement with our partners and are proud of it. I would like to thank World Triathlon and Africa Triathlon, and I am confident that we are on the right track.'
— Cédric Gosse, FRATRI and French Triathlon President
'We are pleased to formalise our collaboration with the Francophone Triathlon Association (FRATRI) and World Triathlon. This partnership will provide additional support to enhance development and capacity building, not only within French-speaking nations but across the entire continent, through the creation of shared projects and programmes that promote participation and growth in the sport.'
— Major General Ahmed Nasser, Africa Triathlon President
This partnership reinforces the shared vision of World Triathlon, Africa Triathlon, and FRATRI to create inclusive pathways for all athletes, coaches, and officials. Together, they aim to ensure that the growth of triathlon across Africa continues with strong collaboration, aligned development, and a shared commitment to opportunity and excellence.
